Our step by step guide for how to properly prime a water transfer pump:

Ensure the power is turned off:

Never leave a pump plugged in while you are operating on it. Ensure that the power supply is turned off by checking the breaker panel.
Get access to the pump system
You will require to access the pump system, so the next step is to find a pluming fixture that will support you obtain access – this is generally the fixture nearest the water tank, but on a pool pump, it will be the strainer basket.

Check for damage:

Ensure you check the pump fully. You need to pay focus to fittings such as piping for damage such as cracks. If the pump has been shut over winter, it is also more vital to do these checks fully. Drain plugs will need to be checked for problems such as re-tightening. A best way to check the valves is to manually run them to ensure they function rightly.

Test a hose:

Once you have found a hose, get ready it by flushing the hose ensure you have clean water. Be careful, you should never drink from a garden hose that may have lead.

Open the relief valves:
This is to stop force from building up – keep an eye on the force gauge too.

Link the hose:

Link the fixture to the closet water tank on a standard water pump. If you are using a pool water transfer pump, locate the house in the strainer basket.

Turn on the water and wait for it to go to the tank:

You should be capable to hear the water as it fills the tank or notice the water force gauge rising. For pool pumps, the strainer basket should be packed before you close the lid. Turn off the water to the hose when you view it coming out the opposite end.
